That said, if you aren't feeling it by the time you reach the end of chapter 1 (which is also where the plot also thickens up significantly), move on to Shadows of Undrentide, which is the 1st expansion and is muuuuuch more fleshed out narratively (and takes you to more interesting locales).

If you are already enjoying it, please don't let people talk you out of it! If you are able to get over the story being threadbare (which people rightfully dock it for when comparing it to its peers), it's more fun than it gets credit for. The tutorial is good for teaching you the game, but there is fun to be had with the campaign for how it's an extremely straight forward D&D sandbox with a lot of stuff to do before you move on to the next region (as it was, in a lot of ways, trying to teach you all the things you could do with the toolset). My advice for NWN1 as far as the official campaigns go is to give the base game (Wailing Death) at least part of chapter 1. After you get out of the first city you get a Baldur's Gate style map where you can roam around. If you want to play a Premium Module the best is probably Darkness over Daggerford. It takes care of all the dependencies and whatnot. Use this tool to install third party modules. If you want to upgrade the graphics a bit you can use this mod: and note the 'low quality PLT' option which sacrifices almost no performance and still looks a lot better. Cleric/Paladin is a good compromise where it's got some spells but you are strong enough to melee that you don't need to master everything. If you don't know D&D 3.0 at all you might want to avoid spellcasting primary classes. (Make sure to take Pixie familiar for picking locks.) If you just auto level Fighter you'll actually be pretty damn strong, fine if you don't mind brute forcing your way through combat. Wizard is really fun but a bit tough at early levels.

Cleric or Paladin is pretty hard to screw up and has good all around abilities.

If you aren't bored go ahead and keep playing. At that point, if you are bored you can skip to the first official expansion. Play the original campaign (The Wailing Death) at least as far as the tutorial.
